What Are Earthy Colors?
Earthy colors are muted, warm-toned hues inspired by the natural world — browns, tans, terracottas, clay, olive greens, ochre, sand and warm grays. Technically they tend to sit in the orange-yellow hue range (20°–60°) with moderate saturation (20%–55%) and medium-to-low lightness (30%–60%).
Because they feel grounded, tactile and organic, earth tones are the visual language of sustainability, wellness, artisanal food, natural cosmetics and outdoor brands. They are also a foundational palette in interior design, where they communicate warmth and permanence.

Earthy Color Best Practices
Earth tones have relatively low contrast against each other, which can make interfaces feel washed out if you rely on color alone for hierarchy. Use one darker anchor (deep brown, charcoal or forest green) for text and interactive elements, and let the lighter earth tones serve as backgrounds and decorative fills. White space and clear typography do a lot of the work in earth-toned design.
