How random colors are generated

The generator picks values in HSL space rather than raw RGB. HSL makes it easy to keep saturation and lightness within pleasant ranges, so the output contains more useful colors than pure RGB randomness.

Seeded randomness

A seeded generator uses a deterministic algorithm, so the same seed always yields the same sequence of colors. This is used for:

  • Design systems that need fixed demo colors per component
  • Testing — the same input always produces the same output
  • Generative art where a seed becomes a shareable parameter

Frequently asked questions

Are random colors really random?

They are pseudo-random. The tool uses the Web Crypto API when available for high-quality randomness, and falls back to Math.random(). When a seed is provided, it uses a deterministic PRNG so results are reproducible.

Why do random colors look better here?

Because hue, saturation and lightness are sampled from tuned ranges instead of raw RGB channels. Pure RGB randomness produces many nearly-black, nearly-white and muddy colors that are not useful in design.

Can I save a random color?

Yes. Every generated color is added to your recent colors. You can also favorite it or open it in the color picker to fine-tune it.

Does the generator upload anything?

No. Everything happens locally in your browser. Your seed and generated colors never leave your device.
