Editorial Policy
Last updated: November 2026
Our Editorial Mission
OmniColor exists to make professional color work accessible to everyone. Every tool description, article, guide and FAQ on this site is written with a single standard: does this help the reader accomplish real work with color? Content that fails this standard does not belong on OmniColor.
This editorial policy explains how we create, review and maintain content, and the standards we hold ourselves to.
Content Standards
Accuracy
Every factual claim on OmniColor must be:
- Verifiable: Based on established color science, W3C specifications, or reputable design/development sources.
- Current: Reflecting the current WCAG specification (2.2), current CSS syntax, and current tool behavior.
- Precise: Using exact numbers, not vague approximations. When we say "WCAG AA requires 4.5:1", we mean exactly 4.5:1.
If we discover an error, we correct it promptly and note material corrections in the article's change log.
Originality
Every article and guide on OmniColor is written from scratch. We do not:
- Copy content from other websites
- Use AI to generate hundreds of near-identical pages
- Republish press releases as our own articles
- Present listicles of "top 10 tools" that only exist to rank in search
We also do not pad articles with filler content. Every paragraph serves a purpose.
Usefulness
Content must be actionable. A guide on "understanding HSL" should help a reader actually use HSL in their work — with real examples, real code and real use cases. Content that only restates the obvious does not meet our standard.
Transparency
We disclose:
- How our tools work (algorithms, formulas, limitations)
- When something is approximate vs. exact
- When information is culturally contingent vs. universal
- Our monetization (non-intrusive advertising)
We do not hide limitations, make false claims about "AI-powered" magic, or pretend that our recommendations are personalized.
Independence
OmniColor's editorial content is independent of our advertising.
- Advertisers cannot influence tool descriptions, articles or recommendations.
- We do not accept payment for editorial reviews or "featured tool" placement.
- We do not run affiliate marketing disguised as editorial content.
- Advertising is clearly separated from tool content and labeled as advertising.
Review Process
Every piece of content follows this process:
- Drafting: Written by a qualified writer with color/design/development experience.
- Technical review: Verified by a second reviewer for factual accuracy, especially color math and accessibility claims.
- Tool verification: Every tool described in the article is tested to ensure the description matches the actual behavior.
- Publication: Only published after all three steps pass.
For technical tools (color math, WCAG, conversions), we verify against the W3C specification or against well-established reference implementations.
Updates and Corrections
Scheduled reviews
Content related to evolving standards (WCAG, CSS syntax, browser features) is reviewed every 12 months. If a standard has changed, we update the content.
Reader-reported corrections
If a reader reports an error, we:
- Acknowledge the report within 2-3 business days
- Verify the report
- Correct the error within 5 business days if confirmed
- Reply to the reporter with what was changed
See our Corrections Policy for full details.
Change log
Substantial changes to articles are noted at the bottom of the article with a change log entry (date + summary of change). This allows readers to see what has been updated and when.
Attribution
We credit original sources of concepts, frameworks and data we reference. This includes:
- W3C specifications (WCAG, CSS)
- Bauhaus and color theory foundations (Itten, Munsell)
- Color systems (Pantone, RAL, NCS)
- Framework color palettes (Tailwind, Bootstrap, Material)
Where we use specific color values or code from another source, we link to it and note the source.
Image Usage
All images on OmniColor are either:
- Created by us specifically for the site
- Generated programmatically (color swatches, palettes)
- Used under an appropriate license (Creative Commons, public domain) with attribution
We do not use images without permission. If you believe we have used an image without authorization, please contact us immediately and we will investigate.
Language and Tone
Our writing style:
- Clear: No jargon without explanation. Complex concepts are broken down.
- Direct: We say what we mean without filler.
- Respectful: We do not talk down to readers, and we do not make fun of other tools or brands.
- Honest: We acknowledge limitations, uncertainties and trade-offs.
Content We Do Not Publish
OmniColor does not publish:
- Misinformation about color science, accessibility or design
- Content designed only to manipulate search rankings without providing value
- Sponsored content disguised as editorial
- Content that discriminates based on race, gender, religion, ability or other protected characteristics
- Content that encourages user harm
