Why Only English?

Internationalization is a significant undertaking. It requires:

  • Translating 150+ tool pages (each with 500-1,500 words of content)
  • Translating 150+ blog articles
  • Translating 60+ guides
  • Translating 70+ web stories
  • Translating all UI strings, labels and error messages
  • Maintaining translations as content is updated
  • Handling right-to-left languages (Arabic, Hebrew) — requires CSS layout work
  • Cultural adaptation for color meanings — some colors mean different things in different cultures

This is roughly 10,000+ hours of work to do well. We are a small team and English-only is currently the only viable approach.

What Works Without Translation

Most OmniColor tools are color-based and use minimal text:

  • Color pickers — visual, language-agnostic
  • Converters — numbers and letters, language-agnostic
  • Palette generators — visual outputs
  • Gradient generators — visual, CSS output is English
  • Image color pickers — pointer-based

The tools themselves work for non-English users; only the surrounding explanations and interface labels are in English.

Browser Translation

All modern browsers (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox) offer built-in translation to any language. Right-click on any OmniColor page and select "Translate to [your language]". While not perfect for technical content, it makes the site accessible to non-English readers.

Future Plans

If we ever add language support, priority order will be:

  1. Spanish — largest non-English audience by internet users
  2. Chinese (Simplified) — largest overall population
  3. French, German, Portuguese — large global coverage
  4. Japanese, Korean — strong design communities
  5. Arabic, Hindi — large populations, requires RTL handling for Arabic

There is no timeline for adding any language. If you want to see translation prioritized, submit a feature request and let us know your language.

Volunteer Translation

If you are fluent in English and another language and want to help translate OmniColor, we would love to hear from you:

We cannot pay for translation, but we would credit volunteers prominently on our Credits page and in the translated pages.
