Color Comparison Tool
Compare up to 8 colors side by side. See HEX, RGB and HSL values plus pairwise Delta E for every combination — perfect for spotting duplicates, verifying variety and confirming palette spacing.
Pairwise Delta E
What Is a Color Comparison Tool?
A color comparison tool compares several colors at once — beyond just a contrast check. Instead of testing two colors (as a standard contrast checker does), it shows you how every pair in a group compares. This is essential for verifying that a palette has enough variety (or, if you want a tight palette, not too much), and for spotting near-duplicate colors that could be merged.
Reading the Delta E Matrix
The matrix shows Delta E between every pair of colors. Cells below 2 (green) indicate visually indistinguishable pairs — the two colors would look identical to most people. Cells above 10 (blue) indicate clearly different colors that should be easily distinguishable.
Common Uses
- Palette quality check: Ensure every color in your palette is visually distinguishable from the others.
- Brand consistency: Compare brand colors from different sources (PDF, website, print) to see if they actually match.
- Data visualization: Verify that chart series colors are distinguishable enough for accessibility.
- Design system audit: Find near-duplicate tokens that should be consolidated.
