What Is a HEX Color Picker?

A HEX color picker is a tool that lets you choose a color and get its HEX code — the six-digit hexadecimal notation used in HTML, CSS and every web-based design system. HEX codes are compact, universally supported and the standard way to specify colors on the web.

OmniColor's HEX color picker lets you choose colors three ways: visually via the native color picker, by typing a HEX code, or by adjusting RGB/HSL sliders. All four methods stay synchronized, so you can switch between them freely.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Click the native color picker to open your OS color picker
  2. Or type a HEX code directly into the HEX field
  3. Or adjust RGB sliders for precise channel control
  4. Or adjust HSL sliders for hue-based adjustment
  5. Copy any output format with the Copy buttons

What Is a HEX Code?

A HEX code is a six-digit code prefixed with #. The six digits represent three channels — red, green, blue — in hexadecimal (base-16). Each channel ranges from 00 (0) to FF (255), producing over 16.7 million possible colors.

Examples:

  • #FF0000 — pure red (255, 0, 0)
  • #00FF00 — pure green (0, 255, 0)
  • #0000FF — pure blue (0, 0, 255)
  • #FFFFFF — white (255, 255, 255)
  • #000000 — black (0, 0, 0)
