What Is a Skin Tone Palette?
A skin tone palette is a set of colors that represent human skin, typically ranging from very light to very deep. Realistic skin tone palettes are essential for illustration, character design, animation, makeup planning and inclusive product design. Because human skin has enormous natural variety, a good skin tone palette should cover multiple tones rather than just one.
OmniColor's skin tone generator produces five realistic skin tones per click by drawing from six lightness tiers that span the Fitzpatrick scale — from very light to deep — each with the correct warm undertone. Every palette is diverse by design.
How Skin Tones Are Generated
Human skin tones cluster in the orange-yellow hue range (roughly 8°–35° on the HSL hue wheel) with moderate saturation (25%–55%). The difference between light and deep skin is primarily lightness, not saturation or hue. OmniColor uses six lightness tiers to span the full realistic range, then randomly selects a distinct tier for each generated color so every palette naturally includes diversity.
