What Is Gradient Text?
Gradient text is text filled with a smooth color transition instead of a solid color. It is a widely used design accent for hero headings, brand signatures and eyebrow text. In CSS, gradient text is created using background-clip: text combined with -webkit-text-fill-color: transparent:
.gradient-text {
background: linear-gradient(135deg, #155EEF, #7C3AED);
-webkit-background-clip: text;
background-clip: text;
-webkit-text-fill-color: transparent;
color: transparent;
}
Browser Support for Gradient Text
Gradient text is fully supported in all modern browsers — Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge. The -webkit- prefixes are still required for maximum compatibility, and they remain necessary for Safari. Always keep both the standard and prefixed versions in your CSS.
Accessibility Considerations
Gradient text can fail WCAG contrast if the gradient passes through very light or very dark colors without contrasting with the background. Test the lightest stop against the background with our contrast checker to ensure readability. For critical body text, prefer solid colors — reserve gradients for headings and design accents.
