Migrate to OmniColor
Switching from another color tool? Here is everything you need to know.
The Good News
Colors are universal. Every hex code, RGB value and HSL triplet on any other color tool works identically on OmniColor. There is no proprietary format, no vendor lock-in, no unique color space. If you know a color's value, you can use it here immediately.
Bringing Your Saved Colors
Most color tools store saved colors either in your browser or in an account. Here is how to move them:
From a browser-based tool (no account)
If the other tool stored colors in your browser's localStorage:
- Open the other tool in your browser
- Press F12 to open Developer Tools
- Go to Application → Local Storage → (other tool's domain)
- Look for keys with saved colors (usually arrays of hex strings)
- Copy the hex values
- Paste them into our Palette Exporter to save them as JSON, or into our advanced picker to save as favorites
From a tool with an account
If the other tool required an account, they usually offer an export option. Look for:
- "Export," "Download," or "Export my data"
- Settings → Account → Data download
- Profile → Your data → Export
Most export to JSON, CSV, or a text file with hex values. Copy those values into OmniColor.
From a design tool (Figma, Sketch, Adobe)
These tools typically store color styles. Export your color styles as a JSON, CSS or SCSS file, then:
- Convert the color values via our color converter if needed
- Or paste the values directly into our palette exporter
Understanding the Differences
No Accounts
Unlike many color tools, OmniColor does not have accounts. Your saved colors are stored in your browser only. This means:
- You do not need to sign up
- You cannot access your colors from a different device or browser
- Clearing browser data will delete your saved colors (export them first)
- No password to remember, no account to be locked out of
No Sync
Because we have no accounts and no backend, colors do not sync between devices. Use the Palette Exporter to transfer between devices via file export/import.
Client-Side Processing
Every tool runs in your browser. This is faster, more private, but requires:
- Modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
- JavaScript enabled
- For image processing tools: sufficient device memory for large images
Tool Mapping

What You Gain
- No account: No signup, no login, no password reset
- No paid tiers: Every tool is free forever
- No tracking: We do not collect your color choices
- Privacy: Your images never leave your browser
- Speed: All tools work instantly
- Accessibility focus: WCAG 2.2 checker built in
What You Give Up
- Cloud sync: Saved colors stay on one device unless you export
- Team sharing: No collaboration features
- Community features: No shared palettes library
- Integrations: No plugins for design tools
For Design Teams
If you are evaluating OmniColor for a design team:
- Use it as a reference tool: Great for on-the-fly color checks
- Export for shared design systems: Use the Design Token Generator to build token sets
- Verify accessibility: Use the contrast checker before committing colors to your system
- Do not replace your design tool: OmniColor complements Figma/Sketch/Penpot — it does not replace them
