What Is a Screen Color Picker?

A screen color picker samples colors from anywhere on your display — not just from a specific image or canvas. It is the digital equivalent of a physical eyedropper: click anywhere, get the exact color that is displayed at that pixel.

How It Differs From Other Color Pickers

  • Standard color picker: Picks from a color wheel or gradient.
  • Image color picker: Picks from pixels within an uploaded image.
  • Screen color picker: Picks from pixels anywhere on your screen — even outside the browser.

Browser Support

Screen color picking requires the EyeDropper API, available in Chrome 95+, Edge 95+, Opera 81+, Brave and Safari 17+. Firefox and older browsers do not support it.

Privacy Note

The EyeDropper API never exposes your screen contents to the web page. Only the specific pixel you click is returned — nothing else. OmniColor cannot see your screen or any other pixels.
