Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often about OmniColor — how it works, what you can do with it, and how we handle your data.
General Questions
What is OmniColor?
OmniColor is a free online color tools platform with 150+ professional color utilities — color pickers, format converters, palette generators, gradient builders, accessibility checkers, image color extractors and more. Every tool runs entirely in your browser.
Is OmniColor really free?
Yes. Every tool is 100% free with no signup, no account, no paywall and no artificial limits. OmniColor is funded by non-intrusive advertising that loads only with your consent.
Do I need to create an account?
No. OmniColor has no account system. All tools are available immediately without any registration or login.
Does OmniColor work offline?
Yes. All tools run entirely in your browser using JavaScript and browser APIs. Once a page has loaded, it continues to work even if your internet connection drops. OmniColor is a Progressive Web App (PWA) — you can install it for faster repeated access.
Does OmniColor work on mobile?
Yes. Every tool is fully responsive and tested at 320px, 360px, 375px, 390px, 414px, 768px, 1024px and 1440px widths. Touch controls, drag interactions and mobile keyboards are all supported.
Privacy
Are my uploaded images sent to a server?
No. All image processing happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images are never uploaded to any server. They exist only in your device's memory during processing and are released when you navigate away.
What data does OmniColor collect?
Almost nothing. Standard server logs (IP, user-agent, URL, timestamp) are kept for 30 days for security. Your saved colors and preferences are stored in your browser's localStorage and never transmitted. If you accept cookies, ad networks may set their own cookies. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Do I have to accept cookies?
No. Only strictly-necessary localStorage (for cookie consent preference and saved colors) is set by default. Advertising and analytics cookies are opt-in — you can decline them and use every tool freely.
Does OmniColor sell my data?
Never. We have no user accounts, no database and no persistent user data to sell. See our CCPA compliance page for our formal "Do Not Sell" disclosure.
Usage & Commercial
Can I use OmniColor for commercial projects?
Yes. Every tool can be used freely for personal and commercial work. Colors and palettes you generate are yours — colors themselves are not copyrightable. See our Copyright Policy for details.
Do I need to credit OmniColor when I use a color?
No. Colors and generated palettes require no attribution. Attribution is only required if you quote our written articles (a link back is appropriate).
Can I copy the entire site or its tools?
No. Our design, code and original content are protected by copyright. If you want to build a similar product, please build it from scratch rather than cloning ours. If you want to use our tools in a product (e.g., white-label), contact us at hello@omnicolor.pages.dev.
Can I link to OmniColor from my site?
Yes, absolutely. We appreciate links. Link to any page you find useful — tool pages, guides, articles. No attribution requirements for linking.
Accuracy
Are the color conversions accurate?
Yes. HEX, RGB, HSL and HSV conversions use exact mathematical formulas per the CSS Color Module Level 4 specification. RGB ↔ CMYK conversion is approximate because screen and print color spaces have different gamuts — this is inherent to color science, not a bug.
Are the contrast checker results WCAG-compliant?
Yes. Our contrast checker uses the exact WCAG 2.2 relative luminance formula. The ratios reported are mathematically correct per the W3C specification. We recommend verifying with a second tool for compliance-critical work.
Are CMYK values accurate for print?
CMYK values are approximate. The standard formula gives a starting point, but exact conversion requires ICC profiles and printer calibration. Always request a printed proof before critical print runs. See our HEX to CMYK converter for guidance.
Is the color blindness simulator medically accurate?
It uses the Brettel/Viénot approximation — the standard method used by most design tools. It is a good approximation for design purposes but not a substitute for real color vision testing by an optometrist.
Technical
Which browsers are supported?
All modern browsers — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge (latest 2 versions each). Some features like the browser EyeDropper API are only available in Chromium browsers and newer Safari; when unavailable, the feature is hidden rather than showing a broken button.
What is the maximum image size for upload?
10 MB per image. Supported formats: JPG, PNG and WebP. Larger images are automatically downscaled on the client for performance.
Can I save colors between sessions?
Yes. Saved favorites and recent color history are stored in your browser's localStorage. They persist across sessions on the same browser but are not shared across devices. Clear your browser's site data to delete them.
Does OmniColor work with ad blockers?
Yes. We do not block ad blockers. Every tool works fully with ads blocked. If you enjoy the site, please consider whitelisting us to support continued development.
Accessibility
Does OmniColor meet WCAG accessibility standards?
Yes, we target WCAG 2.2 AA compliance. See our Accessibility Statement for details on our accessibility features and known limitations.
Is OmniColor screen-reader compatible?
Yes, we test with NVDA (Windows) and VoiceOver (macOS/iOS). Interactive tools have ARIA labels, form inputs have proper labels, and dynamic changes are announced via live regions. If you find an issue, please report it to accessibility@omnicolor.pages.dev.
Can I use OmniColor with keyboard only?
Yes. All interactive elements are keyboard accessible. Tab to navigate, Enter/Space to activate, and Escape to close modals. Some visual tools (color wheel, canvas pickers) rely on pointer interaction, but equivalent numeric inputs are always provided as accessible alternatives.
